Kathleen is originally from California. Her passion for horses started at the age of nine when she was enrolled in riding lessons. She knew she always wanted to make working with horses her career but she wasn’t exactly sure what type of field. One day while her mom was reading the newspaper, she came across an article about canine massage and told her about it. She went and googled it and that is where she discovered equine massage and came across the website for Equissage based in Southern California. She jumped at the chance and enrolled in the course. Equissage is the top equine training course on the West coast approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Kathleen moved to Lexington, Kentucky to pursue her dreams in equine sports massage.
Equine massage enhances muscle tone, increases range of motion and eases muscle spasms. Sixty percent of a horse's body weight is muscle and the system responsible for motion. Muscles respond to stress or injury by hyper contraction and the result is unnecessary stress on the imposing muscles or joints. Muscle soreness can be the result of injury by cooling down too fast, structural, systemic imbalance, over stretching, or overuse. Any portion of the muscle which is not working for the horse is working against the horse. Equine massage is very beneficial to the horse using different massage strokes to help heal needed relief due to muscular pain and assisting in the prevention of injury to the muscles.
